1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit. They allow the website to recognise your device on return visits, remember your preferences, and gather analytical information about how you use the site.
Similar technologies — such as web beacons, pixel tags, local storage objects, and session storage — operate in comparable ways. References to "cookies" in this policy include these similar technologies unless we state otherwise.
2. Australian privacy law
Australia does not have a specific cookie-consent law equivalent to the EU's ePrivacy Directive. However, where cookies collect information that identifies you or could reasonably identify you, that information constitutes personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
We handle any personal information collected through cookies in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This means we only collect what is necessary, use it for the purposes set out below, and take reasonable steps to keep it secure.
In plain terms: We don't use cookies to build secret profiles on you or sell your data. Analytics cookies help us understand how to improve our website. You can disable them at any time.
3. Cookies we use
Essential cookies
These cookies are strictly necessary for the Site to function. They cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality. They do not store any personally identifiable information.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Session state | Maintains basic site session continuity | Session (deleted on browser close) |
| CSRF token | Protects form submissions from cross-site request forgery | Session |
Preference cookies
These cookies remember choices you make on the Site (such as your selected accent colour or hero density in our design tweaks panel) so they persist across page loads.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| zt_prefs | Stores your visual preferences (theme settings) | 30 days |
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use our Site. This helps us improve content and user experience. Analytics data is aggregated and does not directly identify individual visitors.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes unique users; used to calculate session and campaign data for analytics reports | 2 years |
| _ga_[ID] | Persists session state for Google Analytics 4 | 2 years |
| _gid | Distinguishes users; stores and updates a unique value for each page visited | 24 hours |
| _gat | Used to throttle the request rate to Google Analytics | 1 minute |
We have enabled IP anonymisation in Google Analytics, which means your full IP address is never stored. Google Analytics data is processed under Google's privacy policy. Google may be located in the United States; for details on our cross-border data handling, see our Privacy Policy — Section 7.
4. Third-party cookies
Some content or features on our Site may be served by third parties (such as embedded video players or social media sharing buttons). These third parties may set their own cookies, over which we have no control. We recommend reviewing the privacy and cookie policies of any third-party services you interact with.
We do not currently use advertising or retargeting cookies. If we introduce them in future, we will update this policy and, where appropriate, seek your consent before placing them.
5. Managing cookies
You can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View cookies stored on your device
- Delete all or specific cookies
- Block cookies from all or specific sites
- Block third-party cookies
- Clear cookies when you close the browser
Browser-specific instructions:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
Please note: Disabling essential cookies will impair or break core website functionality. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the Site but will prevent us from improving it based on real usage data.
To opt out of Google Analytics specifically, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
6. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is currently no industry-wide standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. Our Site does not currently alter its behaviour in response to a DNT signal, but we do minimise tracking to analytics only and do not engage in cross-site behavioural advertising.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated. We encourage you to check back periodically.
